Fire destroys home in Wallan

In the early hours of this morning (30 January) CFA crews were called to a house fire on Botanical Avenue in Wallan.

Crews arrive at the scene at about 5.15am to find the single storey brick dwelling fully alight.

CFA Incident Controller Chris Brockwell said it took seven crews about thirty minutes to get the fire under control.

“The family, who were in the house when the blaze broke out, were able to self-evacuate before crews arrived at the scene,” said Mr Brockwell.

“Fireys then made sure all surrounding residences were safely evacuated as a precaution.

“We also issued an advice message due to the excessive smoke in the area.”

Quick action by crews in the early stages ensured that no surrounding properties were damaged.

“An asset protection approach ensured that the blaze was contained to the house and didn’t spread to any other surrounding properties,” said Mr Brockwell.

"It was a job well done by all who attended. It’s great to see members from different brigades come together and work as a high performing team in the interests of protecting our communities."

Fire investigators will attend to determine the cause of the blaze.

Seven CFA trucks from Bendigo, Craigieburn, Kilmore and Wallan helped get the blaze under control.

Ambulance and Police also attended the incident.
