Since the Fire Services Statement was launched on 19 May 2017, CFA leadership, as well as Government representatives have had contact with over 800 brigades across the state to discuss and explain the reforms.

Over the course of this engagement, a series of questions have emerged as the most frequently asked. We have created this document to help clarify some of the most commonly asked topics.

I would encourage you to read and share this factsheet as it contains additional information about elements of the government’s reforms.

I’d like to also update you on the Parliamentary Select Committee inquiry, which is continuing to hold public hearings in regional Victoria this week. These hearings are open to the public with locations and times updated at this website:

The committee has already held hearings in Wangaratta and Swan Hill last week and a transcript of these proceedings will be published shortly. The Committee has also received a large number of submissions.

These are being progressively published here

At present, more than 350 submissions have been uploaded and can be viewed. As a statutory agency, CFA contributed to a whole of government submission – this can be viewed here:

I am pleased to see so many people engaged in the discussions regarding the reforms and would like to take this opportunity to reinforce the importance of maintaining respect for each other.

I will continue to keep you updated. If you have any further questions concerning the reforms please discuss with your line manager or email the CFA Fire Services Reform team at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
