Firefighters battle double shop fire in Dandenong

CFA and MFB crews were called to extinguish a blaze that ripped through two double story shops in Dandenong early this morning (Wednesday, 13 September).

Firefighters were called to the Lonsdale Street address just after 1.30am and the building was well alight when crews arrived on scene.

Rostered Duty Office Gary Bryant said it was a well-managed fire and crews worked hard to get the fire under control.

“Firefighters are currently still on scene and will remain on scene throughout the morning,” Gary said.

“The Breathing Apparatus Van was called for from Frankston and the Mobile Communications Van was called for from Patterson River.”

Firefighters were able to rescue a dog (pictured) from the back of one of the shops.

There were nine CFA trucks from Dandenong, Hallam, Frankston and Patterson River on scene as well as three MFB trucks.

A fire investigation will take place to determine the cause of the fire.

Police, building surveyors and local council were also on scene.
