Today, 31 March, 51 career firefighters will take up new positions at 11 integrated fire stations, as part of the Growth Programs across CFA.

Fire stations Belmont, Mornington, Patterson River, Springvale, Craigieburn, Hoppers Crossing, Point Cook, Greenvale, Caroline Springs, Geelong and Dandenong will welcome up to five above-strength firefighters deployed from other stations.

This is a major milestone for the Growth Programs, which is managing planning and implementation of the Victorian Government-funded Program 350 Firefighters, which aims to improve service delivery across CFA.

The Growth Programs manager Cassie Pennicuik highlighted the dedication of the Promote, Create & Appoint sub-program for achieving this step in the complex and far-reaching process of rolling out this project.

“It’s fantastic to see the team moving the process forward by deploying 51 career firefighters, however there’s still a lot more to do in completing the deployment of 350 firefighters into new roles at new locations by 2019,” Cassie said.

“As one of three sub-programs I oversee, Promote, Create and Appoint has gone through a rigorous process of selecting appropriately skilled members and preparing these career firefighters to move to their new roles as part of this deployment.

“Filling these new roles will ensure minimum staffing levels at all 35 integrated brigades are increased to four career firefighters per shift.

“The Promote, Create and Appoint sub-program team will continue to work closely with both the stations receiving additional staff to make sure existing staff are aware of the changes and reasons behind them, and with career firefighters relocating to other fire stations across the state.”

Watch Deputy Chief Officer, Workforce Strategy and Growth Programs, Garry Cook give an overview of the Growth Programs, discussing key deliverables of the three sub-programs: Recruit and Train, Promote, Create and Appoint, and Capital.
