Victorian firefighters will swap their boots with runners as they put their endurance to the test on Thursday, 13 April to raise funds for the Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal.
CFA and MFB are taking part in a relay challenge, which will see firefighters from both agencies run side-by-side on treadmills for 14 hours straight.
Relay runners are hoping to blitz last year’s efforts which saw more than $22,000 donated and 254 kilometres run.
All funds raised go towards supporting research into life-threatening illnesses and the purchase of equipment within the Royal Children’s Hospital.
CFA Chief Officer Steve Warrington said firefighters were committed to helping members of the community in need.
“A huge part of what we do is saving lives so this is an important Appeal for us to take part in,” he said.
“It’s great to see so many of our people lending their support to this worthy event. We look forward to continuing our support to the Good Friday Appeal for many more years to come.”
MFB Acting Chief Officer Paul Stacchino said the event was an opportunity for the services to work together and raise money for a great cause.
“Every day MFB and CFA crews work together on the fire ground, so this annual challenge is a great way for our firefighters to once again come together to support the community they serve,” he said.
“We hope our efforts will inspire those who come along to cheer on those taking part in the challenge to dig deep for this important cause.”
On Good Friday, CFA and MFB will be out shaking tins on streets across the state collecting donations for the Appeal.
Last year saw a combined total of more than $1.7 million raised through the relay challenge and tin rattle.
The relay challenge will take place in the Bourke Street Mall (Elizabeth St end opposite GPO building) with one runner from each agency on a treadmill continuously from 7am to 9pm.
