Fiskville decommissioning works to begin
Following the closure of CFA’s Fiskville Training Campus in 2015, CFA is set to start the decommissioning works within two weeks.
Demolition of the Practical Area Drill (PAD) is the first major step in the decommissioning of the site. This work includes the removal of all training props and other structures, underground pipework and the underground petroleum storage system infrastructure within the training area.
The former Accommodation areas, Learning Centre and other structures outside of the PAD area are not impacted by these works.
CFA Chief Officer Steve Warrington said while this was an emotional time for many it was a requirement of the CFA to remediate the site.
“The safety and wellbeing of our people and the broader community is our first priority,” he said.
“As you are aware, the CFA Board took this course of action in 2015 as the safety of the site could no longer be guaranteed.
“We are committed to providing information to our members and the community about the decommissioning process.
“The start of these works will be closure for some, difficult for others, but hopefully we can all move forward and focus on the future with new facilities such as the new Central Highlands Training Campus.”
The Fiskville Enquiry Hotline (1800 628 616) is still available to everyone, including CFA members, their families and the community.
Confidential, free health checks are also available to CFA members as well as anyone who worked, trained or had any contact with Fiskville. This can be arranged by calling the Fiskville Hotline on 1800 628 616.
CFA will continue to provide decommissioning work updates throughout the process.
