CFA's response to the Professor Joy Report ‘Informing the Future' provided 11 management initiatives in addition to the 10 recommendations. One of these initiatives - the voluntary health surveillance program - was announced this week and will be rolled out shortly.

We will soon begin contacting present and past members identified in the Professor Joy Report as belonging to high and medium risk of exposure groups compared to all others who were at Fiskville between 1971 and 1999, inviting them to participate in the program.

Individuals in the identified groups, which could include up to 250 people, will be offered annual medical assessments involving a medical examination and health questionnaire.

The voluntary Health Surveillance Program is an important action to address our concerns for the welfare of our members.

We understand that many present and past members may feel anxious following the release of the Professor Joy Report. The voluntary Health Surveillance Program will monitor many of those identified in the report, providing them with a greater opportunity for early information on their health.

The program will offer medical services on an annual basis for the first five years then further health surveillance may occur based on medical advice.

While the voluntary Health Surveillance Program will monitor individuals' health, medical treatment will remain with present and past members own health professionals.

We are determined to ensure the practices identified in the Professor Joy Report are never repeated. We have already made significant progress ensuring Fiskville remains our primary training facility which will serve CFA and other agencies for decades to come.

We remain committed to our members both past and present who may have been impacted by the burning of chemicals at Fiskville in past eras.

Any members who have concerns are encouraged to phone the health and welfare hotline on 1800 628 616 or email This email address is being protected from spambots.
