In January CFA welcomed the Environment Protection Authority's (EPA) oversight of plans to assess and manage environmental matters at Fiskville relating to historical firefighting training practices.

I am now pleased to report that two important milestones in our work with EPA have been achieved.

First the EPA has reviewed and accepted CFA's current program of work to undertake environmental and human health risk assessments and upgrades to the site, and has confirmed that it will adequately addresses its requirements. CFA engaged Cardno Lane Piper in July 2012 to prepare this work and it is now well progressed.

Second the EPA has approved the scope of the independent audit being conducted by the EPA statutory environmental auditor, which will be delivered by 30 December 2013.

As a result, Cardno Lane Piper will continue with its planned environmental and human health assessments; and with the development of plans for upgrades to the Fiskville site.

These are extremely positive steps and reaffirm CFA's commitment to ensure this program of work is done right and that we remain open and transparent as we implement the recommendations from Professor Joy's Report of the Independent Fiskville Investigation.
