Fiskville water update
CFA has received some initial testing results from the independent National Association of Testing Authorities, Australia (NATA) laboratory for the Fiskville site.
We understand that the remaining tests will take longer to analyse but I will distribute the full report as they become available.
Firstly, the report indicates the E.coli levels in samples taken 21/6/12, 25/6/12 and 26/6/12 in the two dams used (‘Pit' and Dam 2) are well below the parameters for E.coli of <150 orgs per 100mL.
The E.coli results, which are a significant health indicator, are very good and show that the water is in a good state and does not pose a threat to anyone using it for training.
The interim results indicate the levels for Suspended solids and Pseudomonas aeruginosa are above the parameters so as a precaution we have implemented CFA's Water Management Plan. This will involve replacing the water in the ‘Pit' with mains water and treating Dam 2.
Given the water in the Pit was replaced with mains water last night, we expect higher levels of Suspended solids and Pseudomonas aeruginosa will have been removed and will return to within the acceptable levels shortly. However to confirm this, the water is being retested in line with our water treatment plan.
The increased levels such as the Suspended solids may be as a result of recent heavy rains.
In line with the Water Management Plan, until results of a retest have been completed, training will proceed using only the mains water supply. This will ensure we are compliant with our own water testing requirements.
If you or any other member have been ill or suffered a medical condition relating to the use of water at Fiskville or if you need more information, I would encourage you to contact Operations Manager Justin Justin at Fiskville.
