From the CO – Mark Reid, retired Regional Director
It is with a heavy heart and a degree of shock that I inform you that Mark Reid, recently retired Gippsland Regional Director, has passed away.
I received a phone call on Thursday 16 February from Mark's sister, Kerrie (who also works in CFA) who told me Mark passed away in the early hours of the morning at his house in Paynesville. It is thought that Mark had a “massive” heart attack, however further information is not available at this stage.
Mark had a long history with CFA starting as a volunteer at South Warrandyte, joining the career staff in 1979 and working at many stations around Districts 7 and 8. He was the Chief Officer of the National Fire Authority in Fiji for two years and his last role when he retired in 2012 was Gippsland Regional Director.
More recently Mark worked for the Pacific island helping to develop its emergency management arrangements.
Mark will be remembered for his passion for life, his dedication to his kids, his commitment to the emergency services in the Pacific and as a friend to many of us in CFA. He will be missed.
I will inform you when funeral details are known.
For more about Mark, see the 2012 story that we posted on our website.
