CFA will look to start its planned burning program in the Grampians Region tomorrow.
The 16-hectare burn will be conducted at the Sago Hill quarry site at Haddon, south west of Ballarat.
CFA Vegetation Management Officer Tony Brady said the burn is focussed on reducing fuel loads and providing greater protection from bushfire to the Haddon and surrounding communities.
“Fire crews are preparing for summer as well and taking every opportunity to carry out planned burns when conditions are suitable,” Mr Brady said.
“Planned burning reduces fuel hazards to make it easier to control bushfires before they grow and threaten lives and assets.
“It’s one way fire services are working towards reducing fuel hazards near communities and in remote areas to help lessen the intensity and impacts of damaging bushfires.”
Mr Brady said the burn is CFA led but will be undertaken with the support of DEPI. He said in recent years, CFA has increasingly looked to DEPI for their expertise and support with planned burning on private land.
The burn will be subject to weather and fuel moisture conditions.
