FYREMN on the job
Wimmera residents can rest assured that the Horsham Fire Brigade Captain is on the job when they see him coming with his FYREMN number plates.
Captain Mat Walsh is proud volunteer firefighter who has been an active member for 21 years, following in the footsteps of his father, John Walsh who was a former resident officer of the Horsham Fire Brigade. Mat and his family have a tradition of involvement with the brigade, as his mother was a founding member of the ladies auxiliary and his wife Cathy, sister, brother in law, niece and nephew are all members.
"Hopefully my daughter, Georgia, who is five, will be a volunteer fire-fighter when she grows up." Says Captain Walsh.
He hopes residents will feel at ease when they see his car.
"As the Captain I go directly to a fire so if people see my car near a fire they will know the brigade is on its way," he said.
"It also gives the rest of the guys something to stir me about."
