Gas leak at Cobram
12:01pm UPDATE: Gas leak in Cobram has been brought under control.
For emergency advice and warnings see http://www.cfa.vic.gov.au/warnings
CFA is at the scene of a gas leak which is heading towards the hospital in Cobram.
It’s believed a backhoe has ruptured a large gas main in Charles Street which has caused a heavy gas leak.
There have not been any evacuations however a Watch and Act message was issued at 9.40am advising people to stay indoors, close all windows and turn off any possible ignition sources.
Police and CFA have been door knocking on nearby houses alerting people to the gas leak and advising them to shelter in place.
The gas company is on scene trying to find the source of the leak.
Firefighters have created fog lines due to the swirling winds which is pushing the gas towards the nearby hospital. These fog lines help disperse the gas in the area.
The hospital is well aware of the gas leak and are preparing for a possible evacuation but it’s not required at this stage.
Four CFA trucks from Cobram, Numurkah, Yarroweyah and an operations car from District 22 are at the scene.
