Gas leak in Churchill
Digging a hole for a post has caused a gas leak on Canterbury Way and Auchterlonie Cres in Churchill this afternoon.
While there’s no threat to the community, CFA issued an Advice Message as a precaution, advising residents to avoid the area to make way for emergency services, keep vents closed, air conditioners switched off and bring pets inside.
District 10 Operations Manager Allan Rankin said crews had set hose streams to spray the area to disperse the gas.
“Firefighters will continue monitoring the environment while gas specialists attend to firstly isolate the gas link and repair the pipe,” Mr Rankin said.
“Crews will remain on the scene for some time until the area is made completely safe.”
Two trucks from Churchill, one from Morwell and one from Traralgon attended.
