Gas pipe leak in Bairnsdale
A ruptured gas pipe and subsequent leak has led to the precautionary evacuation of one home on MacArthur St, Bairnsdale this afternoon.
Eight firefighters in two CFA crews from Bairnsdale have set up a jet spray of water onto the pipe to reduce fumes and remove the risk of fire.
Five homes are located on the road, however only one had occupants inside to be evacuated.
Police have closed MacArthur and adjoining Dalmahoy Street.
A power company is on the scene and gas specialists are on their way to fix the pipe.
CFA advises residents in the surrounding area to keep doors and windows closed.
While there is no threat to the community, CFA advises people to avoid the area until otherwise informed.
Emergency services responded to the incident from 1.40pm.
