Gippsland road update
Victoria Police reiterate that many roads in the Seaton, Glenmaggie and Heyfield area are restricted to local access only.
Police will be actively patrolling the area.
We ask drivers to take care on the roads and avoid unnecessary travel, particularly in fire-affected areas.
Local access has today been restored further along Licola Road.
Local residents, property owners and essential services can now travel along Licola Road from Heyfield to the Kellehers Road intersection, near Paradise Valley.
Changes to road conditions and access levels can happen quickly, so it is best to check the VicRoads website regularly or call the VicRoads Traffic Management Centre on 13 11 70.
Be aware that road safety conditions may have changed. Some roads may have no signs, line markings or safety barriers.
There are also still emergency services and large heavy machinery working to clean up roads. Roaming animals, fallen trees and vegetation may still be in the roadside area.
This makes it particularly important to observe speed limits and drive with extra caution.
Please follow instructions of local authorities and be aware that road conditions and closures could change quickly.
For information on fires in Victoria and general fire safety, please contact the Victorian Bushfire Information Line (VBIL) on freecall 1800 240 667. Callers who are deaf, hard of hearing, or have a speech / communication impairment may contact VBIL via the National Relay Service on 1800 555 677
People should also tune in to their emergency broadcasters: ABC Local Radio, commercial radio and designated community radio stations or SKY NEWS Television.
Information is online at www.dse.vic.gov.au/fires or www.cfa.vic.gov.au
