Government response to Fiskville Inquiry

The Victorian Government has today tabled its response to the Parliamentary Inquiry into Fiskville.

CFA backs the State Government in supporting in full, principle or part to all 31 recommendations that were made.

This is an important step in what has been a complex and emotional matter for everyone at CFA.

CFA has supported every effort to thoroughly investigate the practices and materials that were used at the Fiskville training centre to understand the risk and harm they posed.

We are determined to continue to improve the way we train and operate today whilst maintaining wellbeing of staff, volunteers and the community.

We have made significant efforts across CFA to address issues that have been identified.

There is more work to be done, including safeguarding the environment at training campuses across Victoria and a range of work has already been carried out at Bangholme with significant planning and design works being conducted at Longerenong, Wangaratta, West Sale, Huntly and Penshurst.

Work is also continuing on the establishment of a new firefighting training campus in the Central Highlands.

We also acknowledge the Victorian Government’s commitment to investigate options for a redress scheme for those directly affected by Fiskville. We are committed to their health, wellbeing and safety and will continue to work in partnership as part of the design and implementation of the scheme.

Today’s response to the report provides an important framework for us to continue implementing changes and ensure staff, volunteers and the community can have full confidence in our facilities.
