Just before 5pm on Tuesday 14 February, CFA was called to reports of a grassfire in Briagolong.

Firefighters from Briagolong, Maffra, Stratford, Heyfield, Sale, Avon, Boisdale, Tinamba, Glenaladale, Valencia Creek, Munro and Perry Bridge brigades attended the scene, with air support called in to further suppress the blaze.

Paynesville Fire Brigade’s rehabilitation unit was also on scene to support firefighters.

The fire was declared under control in just under two hours, with crews remaining on scene until 10pm, and returning the following two days to continue to mop up the area.

The fire burnt through around 25 hectares and caused significant damage to the property.

There are a number of safety precautions to take when operating farm machinery on hot, dry days. Find out more here.
