Grassfires keep fireys busy

CFA crews had a busy afternoon battling two grassfires in the state’s north-east.

Firefighters were called to a grassfire on Glenrowan Moyhu Rd in Glenrowan at 1.30pm. The fast moving grassfire travelled along the edge of a roadside. Police were on scene for traffic control.  Moyhu-Glenrowan Road at the Glenrowan end, near Briggs Lane is still closed.

Approximately five hectares of grassland was burnt. There were 14 trucks on scene as well as two water aircraft from Ovens and Bendigo to provide additional support.

The fire was contained at 4.35pm and there is no threat to property or communities. Crews from Wangaratta, Laceby, Taminick, Oxley, Glenrowan, Moyhu, Greta, Milawa, South Wangaratta and Benalla were on scene.

The cause of the fire is yet to be determined.

A grassfire at Tamleugh North on Shepparton-Violet Town Road broke out at 2pm on a private property, burning approximately 120 hectares.

The fire was bought under control at 3.40pm. There was no damage to lives or property.

Crews from Violet Town, Miepoll, Boho, Goorambat, Balmattum, Earlston, Karramomus,Caniambo, Riggs Creek, Baddaginne, Koonda and Violet Town as well as support from four aircraft.

The cause of the fire is yet to be determined.
