Fire has burnt through the roof space of a house in Greenvale this morning, causing extensive damage to the property.

Crews responded shortly after 9.30am, and arrived to find the roof of the single-storey brick veneer home well alight.

Attack on the fire was initially focused on the roof area. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus then entered the home.

Operations Officer Steve Pitcher said that there had been extensive damage to the roof and may have been substantial damage to the rest of the structure.

A cause for the blaze is still not known, however the fire is not being treated as suspicious.

Four trucks from CFA and four from MFB attended, including pumpers from Craigieburn and Greenvale CFA brigades, and breathing apparatus support from Eltham.

A fire investigator is attending the scene this afternoon.
