More than 120 valiant CFA members are back on home soil after assisting South Australia with flood and rescue efforts.
The first CFA team left Victoria on Friday 30 September and as of today (7 October) all members have returned home to their respective districts.
CFA brigades from all across Victoria volunteered members to ensure that our neighbouring state had the assistance they required to tackle the wild weather. More than 10 districts from every corner of the state jumped in to lend a helping hand.
The teams worked in two day deployments primarily assisting SES with filling sand bags, bagging off properties, clearing fallen trees and rescue efforts.
Strike Team Leader Bruce Jewell said every single member of the team who travelled to SA did CFA proud.
“When we arrived local SES crews were exhausted, so we were very happy to take some weight off their shoulders,” said Captain Jewell.
“From word go it was inspiring to see the cooperation between all emergency services and state departments.
“It didn’t matter who you were or where you were from, everyone just got in there and got the job done.
“The seamless team work from all involved is a real testament to the skills and dedication of all emergency service workers.
“It’s reassuring to know that additional support is out there and you never know, maybe next time it will be us who needs assistance.
CFA sent 15 vehicles to SA which will be collected on Sunday 9 October.
