Heavy tankers hot off the production line

CFA has been handed the keys for four new heavy tankers which will add to CFA’s fleet ahead of the summer season.

The four new trucks complete CFA’s 2015/16 fleet replacement program and will soon bolster firefighting capability in Warragul, Bruthen, Bridgewater and Tallangatta.

CFA Operations Manager Craig Brownlie said as part of the program, 40 new heavy tankers were manufactured to replace ageing trucks.

“This is a great addition to the community and provides additional cover ahead of the summer season,” he said.

“We’re certainly looking forward to having these trucks out at brigades available to better protect the community.”

The new duel-cab tankers can hold 4000 litres of water; also feature a 750-litre emergency water tank and a 1200-litre-a-minute pump.

They are fitted with roll-over protection, which comes factory-fitted as well as ABS brakes, water-cooled diesel pump engine for quieter operation and built to Euro 5 emission standards for reduced environmental impact.

The trucks feature a front-mounted water monitor, giving firefighters better ability to combat grass fires.

“These trucks hold much more water, have a better pumping capacity and greater engine power which will allow for better efficiency in our response,” Mr Brownlie said.

There is also a Victorian Government media release about the new tanker.
