Heritage building damaged by fire
A heritage building at the Geelong Saleyards was significantly damaged by fire early Monday morning.
Firefighters were called the Weddell Road address in North Geelong about 4am. It took 35 firefighters from Geelong City, Geelong West and Corio about an hour to control the fire.
One third of the structure, which was approximately 45x10 meters, was completely gutted from the south end and the rest of the building was significantly damaged by heat and smoke.
CFA investigators, with members of the police forensics and arson squads, are on scene investigating the origin and cause of the fire.
