Historic CFA-MFB recruitment campaign opens

Applications to become a Victorian firefighter open today in the first ever joint CFA-MFB recruitment campaign.

Applications open 12pm Monday, 12 February and aspiring firefighters are urged not to delay their applications.

The recruitment drive aims to see 90 new career firefighters join the ranks of the state’s fire services, in the State Government’s push for an additional 450 career firefighters for Victoria.

The fire services are urging women and people from diverse backgrounds to apply.

CFA Deputy Chief Officer Garry Cook says CFA wants a more diverse fire service to reflect the community it serves.

“Anyone who has seriously considered a career as a firefighter is strongly urged to apply,” Mr Cook said.

“A career as a firefighter is an enormously exciting and rewarding career. It involves much more than fighting fires; we respond to medical emergencies, are involved in the state’s planning and educate the community on how to keep their homes safe.

“The fire services have joined forces to recruit because Victoria is rapidly growing and we need more firefighters throughout the state, particularly in growth areas.”

The recruitment process includes a written section, a medical clearance and a physical aptitude test.

Successful applicants will serve in either the CFA or MFB.
