Just before 6pm on Saturday evening (2nd March), Ferntree Gully, Upper Ferntree Gully and Rowville were paged for a reported house on fire in Wellington Road in Lysterfield.

Enroute, Ferntree Gully Pumper made it known to Vicfire that there was a heavy amount of smoke showing from the vicinity. This backed up what the multiple 000 callers were saying, that the side of the house had a "very large fire".

Due to the premises being at the end of a 200m long driveway, and no hydrants being located on the property, it was decided to increase the amount of Tankers to 5, and to respond Scoresby Hoselayer, so that Tankers could draft out an onsite dam and feed the firefighting appliances at the top of the driveway.

“Brigades are on the ball out here, responding more Tankers until they can get a hoselay in,” explains Operations Officer Kennedy.

With an internal search and firefight undertaken, the fire was contained to 1/3 of the structure, with heat and smoke damage to another 1/3.

With firefighter welfare on the warm evening a priority, Yellingbo Support was responded for rehab duties.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
