Over 60 firefighters are currently on scene at a house fire on McGrath Road in Wyndham Vale, believed to have started just before 12:30pm today, 26 March.

15 fire trucks responded, including units from Wyndham Vale and neighbouring brigades, with support from Fire Rescue Victoria crews.

Wyndham Vale Captain and Incident Controller Trevor Weston said crews arrived on scene to find a single-storey, brick veneer home well alight.

“There was thick black smoke issuing from the property,” he said.

“The fire was extremely intense, due to excessive fuel loads, both inside and outside the house.

“One neighbouring property sustained a small amount of damage, but we were able to protect the other neighbouring properties,” Captain Weston said.

One occupant was home at the time of the blaze, but was able to escape unharmed, with the asstance of passers-by.

The incident was deemed under control just after 2:30pm, with crews to remain on scene for some time undertaking blacking out operations and mop up.

The cause of the fire remains unknown and will require investigation.
