House fire at Norlane
Crews from Corio and Geelong city attended a house fire in Norlane shortly after 11pm last night (Monday 20 October).
Operations Officer Colin Reid said that 11 firefighters had arrived on scene to find the front room of the home well alight.
“Neighbours informed us that there may be a person trapped inside and that they were likely to be in the back the property so based on that information we entered from the rear using breathing apparatus,” he said.
Firefighters were able to rescue a man from the property and performed CPR until ambulance crews arrived. He was later airlifted to the Alfred Hospital in Melbourne.
Colin said that while the property was heavily smoke logged, most of the structure remained intact.
“The crews did a great job in containing the fire to that one room at the front of the house,” he said.
The fire was declared safe just before midnight.
