House fire at Portarlington
A family of four has escaped a fire which destroyed their home in Portarlington overnight.
Firefighters from Corio, Drysdale, St Leonards and Portarlington were called the Arlington St property at about 9.50pm.
CFA District 7 RDO Mick McGuinness said crews arrived to find the house well alight.
“A family of four was home at the time of the fire but thankfully they escaped uninjured after one of them noticed flames outside their window and woke the others,” he said.
“Preliminary investigations indicate the fire started in the garage at the rear of the property and quickly spread to the house.”
The house and the three-car garage were gutted by the fire.
CFA fire investigators will attend the incident this morning to determine a cause.
Meanwhile, a separate fire has gutted a 10x5 metre shed in Kyneton overnight.
CFA crews from Kyneton, Woodend, Malmsbury and Carlsruhe attended the incident on Begg Street at about 7:15pm.
Investigations into the cause will continue this morning.
