At around 5:30pm on Saturday 2 Feb CFA crews were called out to a house fire in Ferntree Gully Rd Scoresby.

When they arrived onscene they found smoke and flames issuing from a single storey brick house with no cars in the driveway. Scoresby Captain Simon McClure called for an additional brigade to be responded as crews started the fire attack and search through the building.

The crews were very successful in saving an elderly male who was located and rescued. Unfortunately, he has suffered burns to over 80% of his body. Paramedics were called to treat the male who is now in hospital in a serious condition.

Scoresby, Rowville, Boronia and Bayswater brigades responded with around 25 firefighters who did a valiant job to contain the fire to less than 50% of the home which appeared to start in the kitchen.

The remainder of the home suffered severe smoke and water damage. The exact cause of the fire is being investigated. Police were also called to help with crowd control.

Story update: Unfortunately the male who was rescued died in hospital on Monday 4 Feb. Our condolences to his family and friends.
