A caravan was destroyed by fire that spread to approximately 17 hectares of bushland in Indigo Valley this afternoon (12 December) from 3.15pm.
Twelve CFA trucks and another 12 slip-on vehicles (smaller firefighting appliances) navigated treacherous terrain to contain the blaze. CFA crews worked alongside Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP) and three firefighting aircraft to extinguish the fire by 8pm.
District 24 Rostered Duty Officer Brett Myers praised firefighters for their excellent teamwork under difficult conditions.
“Crews had to use extended hoses to reach the fire front due to the rocky and rugged terrain,” Brett said.
“With hot and windy weather forecast tomorrow, CFA crews are monitoring the area using thermal imaging cameras to detect any hot spots through the night.
“Fire investigators will look to determine the cause first thing tomorrow morning.”
