James Dullard chills out for Daniher’s Drive
A CFA member and three mates will be road-tripping around Victoria with a truck full of ice – all in the name of AFL legend Neale Daniher.
CFA Operations Manager James Dullard makes up one part of ‘Team Consumption’ which will be one of 40 teams taking part in the Daniher’s Drive from 13-16 October.
Starting and finishing in Melbourne, teams will visit 19 areas including Lilydale, Bright, Mt Hotham, Bairnsdale and Wonthaggi.
The event was co-founded by Mr Daniher to raise funds for Cure for MND Foundation, after he was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease (MND) in 2013.
As a novel twist, Mr Dullard’s team will drive an Amarok twincab, which will be filled with ice at various stops for people to jump in and mimic the foundation’s ‘Big Freeze’ fundraising event hosted at Melbourne’s MCG.
“We thought setting up our own ‘Big Freeze’ as we stop off at different towns would be a fun spectacle to get the local community involved,” Mr Dullard said.
“The point is to put a freeze on the degenerative effects of MND by donating money to the cause for a friend to plunge into our portable ice bath.”
Mr Dullard is an old school friend of Mr Daniher, so the cause is close to home.
“We went to Assumption College together and have kept in touch over the years, so I really felt for him when I heard about his diagnosis,” Mr Dullard said.
“Charity events like this can have a huge impact on building awareness and raising funds for important causes like this, so while I may only be playing a small role, it feels good to know I’m helping out.
“In 2015, the Daniher’s Drive raised more than $1.1 million dollars for Cure for MND Foundation, so I hope that with widespread community support, we can smash this record in 2016.”
MND is a progressive, terminal neurological disease, which can affect anyone. There is currently no effective treatment and no known cure.
Daniher’s Drive is contributing to the foundation’s mission “To Cure, To Care, To Make Aware”, with 100 per cent of funds raised going towards finding a cure for MND.
Many small donations from many CFA members will make a huge difference.
