CFA firefighters are praising the efforts of a Jan Juc man who saved his neighbour from a fire this morning.

CFA District 7 Operations Officer Wayne Aylmer said firefighters were called to a unit fire on Carnoustie Avenue around 6.45am.

“When firefighters arrived, the rear unit was fully alight; the fire had also spread to a second unit,” Mr Aylmer said.

“The resident of the rear unit was pulled to safety by a neighbour – the occupant of the second unit.

“The efforts of this man were exceptional. His actions saved the man’s life.”

The rear unit and second unit in the block of three were gutted. The front unit remains unaffected by fire.

The fire was called under control at 7.30am.

A fire investigator will look into the cause.

CFA crews from Corio, Anglesea, Torquay, Belmont and Grovedale attended with police and ambulance.
