Jesse the hero dog
Jesse the Maltese Terrier is being hailed a hero for waking his owner after the smoke alarm in her house went off while she was in a deep sleep.
Susan Ford was staying at her sister's house in Heathcote when the smoke alarm went off in the early hours of the morning.
Susan takes sleeping tablets and the noise of the alarm didn't wake her but her eight-year-old dog Jesse came to the rescue.
"He went crazy trying to wake me, he was relentless, jumping on me barking and nudging me really hard 'til i woke up," she said.
"I would have had time to get me and my family out of the house if it was a real fire. Theres no doubt in my mind that Jesse would have saved all of our lives. He's my hero dog!"
Luckily it was a false alarm and everyone was safe, including Jesse, who was himself rescued by Susan from a home who couldn't look after him.
Anyone who is hearing impaired or deep sleepers who don't have a hero dog or human living in their home should consider a vibrating smoke alarm system.
