CFA and MFB attended a chemical spill in Keysborough on Tues 25 June.

Firefighters wore gas suits and the CFA Scientific Officer on scene determined the chemical was a mix of sulphuric and hydrochloric acid.

Firefighters mixed soda ash into the acids to neutralise the substance. EPA was called to the scene to remove the container.

Police blocked off roads in the immediate area and five people in the nearby Nando’s and Shell service station were relocated.

No one was injured.

CFA have now cleared the scene and handed it over to Police.
