Kiewa CFA and SES work together
Volunteers are a vital part of our community and luckily our local area of Kiewa has two organisations that are well represented: Kiewa brigade and Tallangatta SES.
To ensure that all volunteers are competent and have current skills, the organisations offer ongoing training. On a recent cold winter's training night, Kiewa brigade and Tallangatta SES joined together to show their commitment to their communities by completing another cross training event.
The evening was put together as a result of the great cooperation between these two local volunteer groups to develop the skills of both services and to further inter-agency cooperation.
The training night involved around 25 volunteers from both agencies. A realistic scenario of a motor vehicle accident with multiple casualties was conducted in Forge Crt, Tangambalanga. The vehicle was overturned on to its roof. The scenario had actors playing the roles of casualties and bystanders. This demanding scenario allowed both agencies to work together responding appropriately.
CFA Lieutenant Ian Kerr said, “We have now had three of these evenings with Tallangatta SES and our firefighters receive invaluable training and understanding of the role and importance of both agencies. I look forward to working with them in the future.”
