Investigations will centre on a possible fuel leak or spill, after a speed boat caught fire at Lake Eppalock, Sunday 4 November.

A man in his thirties was treated for minor burns after the boat ingnited on the shore of the Lake Eppalock Holiday Park.

The man told firefighters he had just refuelled the boat before taking a short journey and returning to shore. After climbing out of the vessel, he noticed a strong smell of fuel.

After opening the engine hatch the boat erupted into flames.

CFA crews from Mosquito Creek, Axe Creek and Bendigo attended the scene.

Firefighters say it's a reminder to boat owners to always carry a fire extinquisher on board.
