Large grass fire in Mount Cottrell

*UPDATED as of 8.30pm* Firefighters battled a large grass and scrub fire in Mount Cottrell this evening (29 Nov).

Crews were called to the incident on Dohertys Road at 5.30pm.

CFA and MFB firefighters worked together with the assistance of 2x helitak to battle the blaze.

The fire was approximately 80 hectares in size and was called under control 8.15pm.

Crews are expected to be on scene for an extended period of time monitoring and blacking out.

There is a significant amount of smoke in the area, if you suffer from exposure to smoke, seek medical advice or call Nurse on Call on 1300 606 024.

36 appliances from Balliang, Bulla, Caroline Springs, Diggers Rest, Eynesbury, Hoppers Crossing, Lara, Little River, Melton, Mernda, Mount Cottrell, Parwan, Point Cook, Rockbank, Toolern Vale, Truganina, Werribee and Wyndham Vale brigades are in attendance along with multiple vehicles from MFB.
