Latest response time data released
CFA has today published response time data for the second quarter of 2017-2018.
The new data shows continued improvement in responding to emergency incidents across Victoria.
The data released also includes information about the other important work CFA undertakes, such as emergency medical responses, land planning, education and home fire safety.
In the three months to 31 December, the 114 busiest CFA brigades responded to 6,582 emergency incidents, up from 5,106 in the first quarter.
The Customer Service Delivery Standard compliance rate was at 88 per cent - this is a measure of the first firefighting vehicle arriving on scene.
CFA Chief Officer Steve Warrington said the data showed where things were working well and would also enable CFA to identify areas for improvement.
“What these results illustrate is that CFA is a high performing organisation that Victorians can trust to protect their lives and their properties,” Mr Warrington said.
“We use this data to improve our performance – It allows us to evaluate how resources are allocated, identify growth and look at where brigades may need additional assistance.
“This data also shows that, as well as providing emergency response, CFA career firefighters and volunteers play a crucial role in educating communities on fire prevention and preparedness.
“CFA assessed 1,400 planning applications, delivered more than 400 school programs and held 275 public information sessions, among many other important public activities.
“Fighting fires is only one aspect of a very broad spectrum of CFA’s duties.”
The latest data shows response time standards for CFA continue to vary depending on the type of environment, including:
- Customer Service Delivery Standard compliance rate at 88 per cent;
- Responding to 89 per cent of fires in significant urban areas within the standard response time of 8 minutes. The individual results for this measure ranged between 27 and 100 per cent;
- Responding to 91 per cent of fires in all other urban areas within the standard response time of 10 minutes; and
- Responding to 100 per cent of fires in areas with predominantly natural surroundings within the standard response time of 20 minutes.
The response time data is reported by Hazard Class, which defines the risk type for any given area covered by a brigade. Each Hazard Class has a Service Delivery Standard, a predefined response time target for brigades attending emergency events.
