Today is White Ribbon Day, and I'm encouraging all the men in CFA to swear an oath to end men's violence against women.

All across Australia, hundreds of thousands of white ribbons are being worn to mark the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. I'm calling on CFA's men and women to support this campaign.

As an official White Ribbon Ambassador, I've pledged to never commit, excuse or be silent about violence against women. And, with my fellow ambassadors, I'm using this week to highlight the cause and rally your support.

In Australia, one in three women will be assaulted or abused in her lifetime. We can't allow this to continue. As CFA members, we serve the community in an emergency services capacity, yet our values of respect, compassion and sacrifice go well beyond our official CFA role. Those values are part of our organisation, and they are also part of our lives.

So join me in saying no to violence against women. Speak out with me to say we won't tolerate it any longer. Wear a white ribbon, support the cause through Facebook or Twitter, or just have a chat to your mates. These are our wives, daughters, girlfriends, workmates and fellow brigade members. Let's swear together that the violence ends now.
