Life membership surprise
On Sunday 23 March, the Mt Wallace Fire Brigade biannual elections were interrupted by a very special announcement.
During the election proceedings, the brigade took a short break from standard procedure to announce to a surprised Frances Lloyd their formal acknowledgement of her 36 years of dedicated service, and to award her life membership of the brigade.
Frances joined in 1977 as secretary of the Mt Wallace CFA Ladies Auxiliary - a role she performed diligently for 19 years before taking on the role as catering officer. In November 2000, Frances completed her Minimum Skills and now continues her association with the brigade as firefighter and catering officer.
Francie, as she is affectionately called, was delighted to be awarded with the title of life membership in front of her family and friends and brigade members present. She expressed her thanks to all concerned saying, “No one does these things alone. Everything I have done is a team effort from many magnificent people.”
Francie’s husband Johnn, was captain of the Mt Wallace Fire Brigade from 1986-89 before he passed away, leaving behind Francie and their six children. Their association with the Mt Wallace Fire
Brigade continues with her four sons all members with three of them serving as lieutenants.
Francie’s daughter Teresa is also connected to CFA through her work at the CFA Training College at Fiskville.
