On Tuesday 23 August a crew from Network Ten filmed a segment about the science of fire at VEMTC Bangholme Campus for an upcoming episode of Scope.

Scope is a fast, funny and informative children's science show, aimed at kids ages 8 to 14, and produced in association with the CSIRO.

District 14 Operations Officer Paul Elso and Lieutenant Dawn Hartog from Toolangi Brigade teamed up to explain the basics of fire and the different types of extinguishers and their uses.

Assisted by the Bangholme staff, Dawn and Paul then demonstrated their firefighting skills extinguishing fires on a range of campus props including a car fire, an electrical type fire and the smoke house.

Scope presenter Kylie Smith and her crew were impressed by the fire scenarios and were very appreciative of the support by CFA staff during the morning shoot.

The CFA science of fire episode is scheduled to screen on Saturday 8 October at 8.30am.
