The fire was brought under control just after 7.20pm Monday,14 January.
The fire burnt more than 350 hectares of paddocks from the times crews arrived around 3.30pm.
The slow moving grassfire travelled in a northwesterly direction under the influence of a south easterly wind and at times proved dangerous and difficult for crews to battle.
AT one stage the fire was spotting 2-3 kilometres ahead while stony ground made access for tankers difficult.
Crews from Anakie, Bacchus Marsh, Balliang, Barrabool, Barwon Heads, Belmont, Corio, Drysdale, Geelong, Grovedale, Highton, Hoppers Crossing, Lara, Leopold, Little River, Lovely Banks, Melton, Modewarre, Mt Cottrell, Point Cook, Queenscliff, Stonehaven, Truganina, Wallington, Werribee and Wyndham Vale responded to the incident along with Strike Teams from across CFA District's 7, 14, and 15.
Crews will remain on scene throughout the night patrolling the fire edge and blacking out.
A cause is being investigated.
