Yarra Glen, Dixons Creek and Steels Creek residents are being urged to share their local knowledge and help prepare new Community Information Guide’s for Bushfire later this month.

The Guides are being developed for the community to help identify and manage the bushfire risk.

There will be three Consultation meetings held, one for each community.

At the meeting residents will be able to discuss their local environment and risk, share what is important to their community and contribute to the information which will be included in the Guide.

This Community Information Guide is different to current bushfire safety publications as it will include information specifically written for each community.

CFA Township Protection Plan Coordinator Matt Ahern said the meetings were a chance for residents to have some input and influence into their local Guide.

“Local residents are the best source of information regarding their area, which is why we want to hear from the community about what they feel should be included and to provide us with the information that will be written into the Guide,” Mr Ahern said.

CFA District 13 Operations Manager Dave Renkin urged all residents to get involved.

“Bushfire is an ever present danger in the Yarra Valley, one of the most fire prone regions in Australia. Managing the risk is everyone’s responsibility and it is never too late to prepare for bushfires.” he said.

“This is an important opportunity for locals to get informed, and contribute to their Community Information Guide.”

The Guide will also have links to the local emergency management plan.

Residents can have their say on their local Community Information Guide - Bushfire plan at an upcoming community meeting.
