When 55-year member of Inglewood Fire Brigade Graeme Lyndon couldn’t make it to the Saturday 17 May brigade’s 150th anniversary dinner because of a recent operation, the official party instead went to him.

It was lights and sirens down the driveway – the neighbour’s dog wasn’t happy – for Regional Commander Mark Gilmore and Operations Manager Peter Taylor to surprise Graeme in his lounge room, leg up.

Not only was Graeme presented with his 55-year service medal which Peter pinned to his comfy home wear, but he was surprised and delighted to also be made a life member of CFA.

Looking on proudly were his wife Pat, daughter Deb and son-in-law Andrew.

“Enough can’t be said about how great a volunteer and person Graeme is,” said brigade Secretary Mel Patterson. “Not only does he volunteer his time for the brigade and CFA but he’s also been a very active volunteer member in other community groups in our town.

“Graeme has played a major part in attending hundreds of turnouts and is still an active member today, assisting the brigade if anything needs doing at the station, attending most monthly meetings and having the Remote 2 radio at home.”

Fortunately Graeme was more mobile the next day and able to attend the brigade open day at the fire station.

Graeme’s service has included:

o 1st Lieutenant, 9 years – 1969-1978
o 3rd Lieutenant, 25 years – 1969-1994
o Captain, 6 years – 1978-1984
o Comms Officer, 2 years – 1998-2000

Congratulations Graeme - a legend in your own lounge room.
