Major fire at Stanhope dairy production plant
A dairy processing plant at Stanhope has been substantially damaged by a fire in the early hours of this morning, Tuesday 16 December.
8 trucks, including 2 large ladder platform trucks and numerous support vehicles from Stanhope, Tatura, Bendigo Cohuna Echuca Girgarre, Kyabram, Rochester, Rushworth and Shepparton attended the blaze.
The fire had taken hold in the roof of a building housing electrical switching equipment and soon spread to other parts of the factory.
District 20 Operations Officer John Cutting praised the response of local brigades
“While the damage is substantial, the excellent response from our local brigades means there is a chance production can resume and the economic impact on the community minimised,” Mr Cutting said.
“The assistance from staff at Bendigo and Shepparton, who brought their large ladder platform trucks, was also crucial.”
OO Cutting said crews had remained on scene this morning identifying any remaining hotpsots using thermal imaging cameras.
CFA fire investigators would examine the scene later today to determine the cause.
“We hope to hand the site back to the company this afternoon and hopefully they’ll be able to resume production quickly,” he said.
