Memorable first callouts
A few weeks ago we asked CFA volunteers to tell us about their first big callout. Some of the responses were incredible, others plain bizarre, and some told of mental or physical challenges.
Some happened 30 years ago, and others just last month.
For all firefighters it is an occasion where senses are heightened, and all of the talking and training starts to make sense. For others, it’s about really starting to feel like part of a team or the community.
In National Volunteer Week we are celebrating CFA volunteers – and not only those with years of service behind them, but those tackling new experiences and skills for the first time. Among those taking on this learning curve to the benefit of communities are our our newest 16 and 17-year-old operational firefighters, the future of volunteerism.
