Newry and Upper Maffra Rural Fire Brigade has been serving the community of Newry and Upper Maffra for over 70 years. To celebrate this significant milestone, the brigade came together to celebrate with a Community Fun day at the Newry Recreational Reserve on Saturday 18th October, providing entertainment with face painting, jumping castle, horse lotto, raffles and a band.  The brigade was on hand with the Community Education Trailer to provide advice to the community on Bushfire Awareness, Captain Koala was in attendance along with the Traralgon Bronto.

That night saw the brigade invite current and past members to the Newry Hall for a presentation dinner.  Peter King was MC for the night entertaining guests with his numerous character impersonations.

District 10 Operations Manager Allan Rankin acknowledged current members’ service, presenting service medals ranging from 5 years to 55 years and Brigade Life Membership to Michael Riley.  A total of 300 years of service was recognised through the presentation of awards.

Overall, it was a fantastic and memorable day and evening celebrating the milestone achievement of 70 years for the Newry and Upper Maffra Fire Brigade.
