Mildura airport runway open day
On Saturday 4 November 2017, volunteer and career firefighters from Mildura Fire Brigade were thrilled to be invited and participate in Mildura Airport's runway open day.
Written by CFA Firefighter Steve Venville
CFA’s involvement started with a ceremonial water salute to VA1615 a Virgin Australia 737-800, a type of aircraft that can now visit Mildura Airport with greater number of passengers and payload thanks to the runway upgrade.
Next up was Hanger 51’s Cessna 206, a general aviation aircraft that has used, and will continue to use Mildura Airport for many more years thanks to the runway upgrade.
Afterwards Mildura Fire Brigade was proud to set up a fully interactive display of CFA vehicles and equipment as well as a community safety stand which provided a valuable source of critical fire safety information to the 100’s of community members that attended our stand. Both were a hit for the kids (young and young at heart!)
Congratulations to Mildura Airport on your new runway and a fantastic community event and thank you for letting us take part. Huge thanks also to CFA D18 Administarion and NWR Community Safety teams, Virgin Australia, Hanger 51 and our members, without them we could not have participated in this great event.
