More than a century later and still going strong

Fire brigades have been holding local and district competitions for more than 140 years. The Rural Championships have been held continuously since the early 1950s. This year is no different with approximately 200 brigades competing in the Urban and Rural State Championships.

The events are based on practical firefighting activities.  They build fitness, team skills and capabilities with hoses, hydrants and other equipment that make them a useful addition to each brigade’s regular training regimen.

This year the Championships are held:

  • Urban Junior State Championships: B J Reither Running Track, Park Drive,  Horsham on 21 – 22 February
  • Urban Senior State Championships: Weeroona Oval, Napier Street (Midland Highway), North Bendigo on 7 – 9
  • Rural State Championships: Lord Nelson Park, Charlton Road, St. Arnaud on 28 – 29 March

CFA will be showcasing some popular existing programs and some of our new projects at ‘CFA on Display’ this year.

There will be:

  • Free health checks
  • Member engagement projects
  • CFA merchandise for sale
  • Computer simulation projects
  • New prototype vehicles such as the Crew Cabin Light Tanker and the Alpine Trial Vehicle
  • The new Member Service Centre where members can order their ID cards and update their details
