Morwell community meeting 14/2/14
Deputy Incident Controller Simon Bloink from CFA spoke about the Hazelwood Open Cut Mine Fire at a community meeting held yesterday (Feb 14).
More than 160 people attended the meeting in Morwell where Mr Bloink provided residents information on the Watch and Act message issued and its impacts for those in the affected area.
“Through monitoring we’ve been able to detect elevated levels of carbon monoxide in this area,” he said.
“What we’re asking residents to do in this area is to shelter in place. This includes closing all windows, doors, vents and turning off any heating or cooling systems.
“Efforts are going well but even with calm winds, staff need to be rested and replaced frequently.
Fire may continue for a few more weeks – if anyone in the affected area is experiencing symptoms such as nausea, headaches or difficulties breathing, please contact Nurse on Call 1300 606 024.
